This 6-day journey combines a sea crossing to Antarctica with a return flight to South America. It begins in Ushuaia, where you board a small expedition ship and sail south across the Drake Passage. On board, join wildlife briefings, spend time in the observation lounges, and take in the scenery of the Southern Ocean. The ship continues toward the South Shetland Islands, where daily landings by Zodiac offer the chance to see Gentoo penguins, Weddell seals, and ice-filled coastal landscapes.
After visiting King George Island, the voyage concludes with a flight across the Southern Ocean to Punta Arenas, avoiding the return sea crossing. This route is suitable for travellers with limited time who want to experience the Antarctic Peninsula without the full round-trip by sea. Prices start at approximately USD $5,000 and include one hotel night in Punta Arenas.

Day 1 – Ushuaia, Argentina
Arrival: Ushuaia, Argentina
First day in the sea
Arrive in Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the planet. In the afternoon, board your expedition vessel and set sail through the scenic Beagle Channel, bound for Puerto Williams, Chile. Settle in and enjoy your first evening at sea, as anticipation builds for the remarkable journey to come. Take time to explore the ship, meet the crew, and join a short welcome briefing outlining the days ahead. With the southern skies overhead and the open ocean ahead, the adventure begins.
Day 2 – Cape Horn & Drake Passage
Drake Passage
Possibility of a landing at Cape Horn
If weather allows, make a Zodiac landing at Cape Horn, one of the southernmost landmasses in the world and a historic landmark for sailors. Conditions here can be unpredictable, so landings are not always possible, but the approach alone offers striking views of the rugged coastline. After rounding the Cape, your ship enters the Drake Passage and begins the journey toward Antarctica. Spend time on deck or at the observation lounge watching for birdlife such as Black-browed Albatross and giant petrels gliding over the open sea. With some luck, you may spot a humpback whale surfacing nearby.
Day 3 – At Sea, Drake Passage
The Dark Passage Crossing
Welcome to Antarctica
Continue your journey across the Drake Passage, a stretch of open sea known for its powerful currents and rich marine life. Join scheduled talks on Antarctic wildlife, glaciology, and the history of polar exploration. These sessions offer useful context for the landscapes and species you are about to encounter. Head out to the observation decks to watch for seabirds riding the wind, including albatrosses and petrels. With some luck, you may also spot whales breaking the surface in the distance. As the ship crosses the Antarctic Convergence, the temperature begins to fall and the first icebergs come into view, marking your approach to the frozen continent.
Day 4 – South Shetland Islands & Antarctic Peninsula
Landing On Antarctica
Zodiac landing and penguins
Cruise through the ice-filled bays of the South Shetland Islands, where daily landings are made by Zodiac, weather and sea conditions permitting. Visit a penguin colony busy with Gentoo and Chinstrap penguins going about their nesting routines. Watch for Leopard and Weddell seals resting on the ice or along the rocky shorelines. The landscape features dramatic ice formations, offering a steady stream of photographic opportunities. With nearly 24 hours of daylight during the Antarctic summer, landings and wildlife observation often continue well into the evening.
Day 5 – King George Island & Flight to Punta Arenas
Take off from Antarctica
Departure from Antarctica
Arrive at Fildes Bay on King George Island and disembark for a short vehicle transfer to the airstrip. Board your aircraft and take off from Antarctica, marking the final leg of your journey. The flight crosses the Southern Ocean, offering a last look at the polar landscape from above. Land in Punta Arenas, Chile, where you will spend the night in a comfortable hotel, included as part of your travel programme.
Day 6 – Punta Arenas, Chile
Airport Transfer
After breakfast, your expedition comes to a close. You will be transferred to the airport for your onward journey, carrying with you the lasting impressions and unforgettable memories of your time on the Seventh Continent.
